Everyone's favorite spot ..

Lush, quiet, peaceful.

Hard to imagine it's less than a 5-minute walk from home.

I’m so grateful because it's literally the opposite of the sensory overload the dogs had to deal with in the Albaicin (the historic part of Granada where I used to live).

Being able to live by the ocean and in walking distance from this "dog walk" .. priceless ..

No need to stay on the path. No need to “get somewhere”.

I’ve always felt my role on a dog walk is more that of a bodyguard 😛 It’s my job to keep the pups safe while out and about, not to be the drill sergeant controlling their every move.

I’ve always allowed my dogs to sniff, explore, and move as freely as the long lead and circumstances allowed.

And I’ve taken loads of criticism for it over the years - from neighbors, friends and local dog trainers.

“The dog needs to follow YOU. You need to set the pace and determine the route. Don’t allow the dog to stop wherever they want! Don’t let them be the boss!”

Turns out, my instincts weren’t all wrong after all.

More and more experts recognize and talk about the benefits and importance of sniffing for your dogs.
