The Rainbow Bridge
National Geographic FEBRUARY 22, 2023
âJust this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, your pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and strength, those who were hurt are made better and strong again, like we remember them before they go to heaven.
They are happy and content except for one small thingâthey each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are shining, his body shakes.
Suddenly he begins to run from the herd, rushing over the grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cuddle in a happy hug never to be apart again.
You and your pet are in tears. Your hands again cuddle his head and you look again into his trusting eyes, so long gone from life, but never absent from your heart, and then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.â
If youâve ever lost a dog, or if youâre dreading the day your pup will leave you, youâre probably crying now ..
I certainly canât read that poem without tearing up.
But do you know the story behind it?
Do you know who Edna Clyne-Rekhy is, and that she - until recently - had no idea that the poem she wrote 60 years ago after her beloved dog Major died has since given comfort to so many grieving their dogs?
I stumbled across the story on Facebook and found this National Geographic article that talks about how a tenacious author and historian found the human soul behind the Rainbow BridgeâŠ

This weekâs Pawsome Human: Inez Robinson - The Power of Patience: Building Trust with a Fearful Dog
Inez is the first podcast guest whoâs on the show for a second time. You might think I really like her đđ and you'd be right!
I adore the work she does (and she's also one of the Panic to Peace summit speakers where she'll share more of her hands-on wisdom with you)
Over the last 18 months, I've been watching (via Inez' Facebook posts) how she helps Zuri transform, literally from Panic to Peace.
Zuri.
A Belgian Malinois pup Inez took in after she got rescued from the horrendous situation she was in and loved and nurtured to health and confidence, one tiny step at a time.
Gift yourself a time-out and listen in https://share.descript.com/view/nOn0TJCaaSQ
