Here is how he was introduced to the show:

“Mark Bello comes from an automotive background, many years of running/ managing automotive repair shops. He also had a teaching license in NY State. Mark pursued a drag racing hobby and was quite successful, many wins and runner-up finishes in the mid 1980s. It is quite the work intensive, detail-oriented sport.

Labrador Retriever puppy Mellie entered his life on January 22, 2017, and changed his life forever. She was exactly 8 weeks young and was counting within several hours of bringing her home, doing flash cards at 4½ months, winning a Bass Pro Shop Best Dog Trick Contest at 20 months of age.

After she passed away, Mark welcomed Labrador puppy Marconi who just performed at his first professional show in late October 2024 and left the audience absolutely astonished. He played Blackjack, took many questions from the audience, spelled names, did birthdays, answered questions about astronomy.

Mark says, “We are on the cusp of changing the entire perception of canine cognition with the advancement of Marconi the Math Dog.”

I knew about the dogs that help kids through the stress of testifying against their abusers in court but Canine First Response teams help in so many more scenarios.

We discuss the unique roles these specially trained dogs play in providing comfort to those affected by trauma, the extensive training processes for both handlers and dogs, and the deep emotional connections formed in the process.
