Today's Pawsome Human: Monique Brignoni - Facing the Final Moments: Embracing End of Life - Naturally, Without Regrets

The Fear of the Pain is Almost Worse Than Feeling the Pain

Leo in July 2020 - 13 months before he crossed the bridge
The day I looked at Leo and saw an old dog my heart sank.
In my eyes, heād always be the adorable, street-smart pup with a mind of his own, the thief of socks and lover of rubbish bins who knew how to make everyone love him.
But there was no doubt about it .. he was getting old.
Things slowly changed - rather than jumping onto beds, chairs and sofas, Iād lift him up and down, instead of sleeping through the night, Iād be up to let him out .. once at first, then twice, three times or more, walks .. just the two of us because he couldnāt keep up with the others anymore.
None of it mattered.
I was ok with him slowing down but I DREADED the day heād leave me.
My biggest fear .. not knowing when itās ātimeā .. I didnāt want to put a dog to sleep who still had life and fight in him AND I didnāt want to prolong his suffering just because I didnāt know how to let go.
He sure made that part easy.
It was as if heād waited for my parents to arrive from Germany so we could be together again, exactly as we were when we found him all those years before.
At 16.5 years of age and with his health declining as it had over the prior months, it wasnāt really a surprise and still .. having your heart torn apart is never easy.
If youāve ever lost a being you loved, I know you understand.
If youāve lost a dog or if youāre dreading losing one, youāll love todayās Pawsome Human who manages to change how we look at and deal with those final moments in a whole new way - from end of the world to natural - and in a way beautiful - part of life.
Donāt miss it ..
